- Abstract
The article focuses on dental biomaterials for post and core restorations. It examines biomechanical concerns of fiber-reinforced composite posts and core buildup along with challenges of bonding posts to root canals. It talks about stress distribution in restorations of endodontically treated teeth that suffered extensive loss of coronal tooth structure and states that photoelastic studies and finite element analysis have been used to analyze stresses. It comments that diameter of metal posts has a significant impact on resistance to fracture due to added removal of dentin and mentions the influence of ferrule on resistance to fracture. It mentions resin cements and the use of dual-cured cements which provide rapid polymerization where light cured and slower polymerization elsewhere.
