- Authors
HUFFAKER, SHAUNA
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the representation of Egyptian military leader Ahmed Urabi in the British press during the late 19th century. According to the author, British periodicals used Orientalist tropes to delegitimize Urabi's authority and capabilities as a leader. Particular focus is given to the role of British imperialist hegemony in these depictions. Other topics include the Anglo-Egyptian Crisis of 1881-1882 and political theorist Antonio Gramsci.
