The article offers information on the management of anaemia and red cell transfusion in adult critically ill patients. It states that erythropoietin should not be used to treat anaemia in critically ill patient but blood conservation sampling devices can be used to reduce phlebotomy-associated blood loss. It further states that pre-transfusion clinical assessment should be done before transfusion.
