- Abstract
This article discusses the division of the governorate of Río de la Plata, Argentina into two distinct jurisdictions in the 17th century. It examines the city of Santa Fe within the Río de la Plata region, which fell under the jurisdiction of Buenos Aires. The author analyzes the relationship between government regulations and political practice by studying the case of Santa Fe during this time period. He also comments on the role of the Catholic Monarchy in Spain on the political divisions in Argentina as well as the various dynamics between political factions at the time.
