- Abstract
COVID-19 is again surging in the US, as it is in Europe and the UK, averaging around 200,000 new cases per day at the time of writing (late November 2020).[1] The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention fears that number could rise because of the upcoming holidays (including America's Thanksgiving holiday) and the forecast cold winter. However, unlike Europe and the UK, who are taking steps to mitigate this "third wave", the US is thwarted by President Trump, who is using the courts and according to Rucker et al in The Washington Post, the power of make believe to overturn his obvious loss in the recent election.[2] The result is that not only has the pandemic been put on the back burner but Trump is also actively preventing President-elect Joe Biden's transition team from meeting with his administration's COVID-19 response team.[3] This will obviously hamper efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 as well as the distribution and administration of the (hopefully) soon to be approved vaccines. Biden says Trump refusal to help transition hurts COVID-19 plans. www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/11/18/biden-said-trump-fails-to-recognize-transition-creates-problems (cited November 2020).
