- Abstract
In the article, the author discusses the history of the African American arts movement, particularly the African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists (AfriCOBRA) organization in the U.S. in the 1960s. He cites the various organizations which helped in liberating the African Americans in Chicago, Illinois, including the newspapers "Chicago Defender" and "Muhammad Speaks," as well as the "Ebony Negro Digest." He cites various African American artists including Gladys Knight and Jimi Hendrix.
