- Abstract
An essay is presented on the Invitational Teaching Conference held in Rochester, New York, in November 1962 and the founding of the Society for Photographic Education (SPE). Particular focus is given to the impact that these events had on the future of photography education in the U.S. Additional topics discussed include how the conference was hosted at the George Eastman House museum and how the conference aimed to advocate for the artistic integrity of photography.
