Handling historic Hanford.
- Abstract
The article focuses on a 7.1 billion-dollar contract awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy to a consortium, consisting of URS, EnergySolutions and Areva, to manage the treatment of nuclear wastes at Hanford in Washington. Washington River Protection Systems was launched through the partnership of URS and EnergySolution, while inviting in major subcontractor Areva. Part of the agreement is the treatment of radioactive wastes stored in underground tanks at the Hanford site. The site was built in 1943 to house nine nuclear reactors and other facilities.
