Internal rectal prolapse: what is it, does it matter, and should we fix it?
- Authors
Raju, D.
- Abstract
Internal rectal prolapse is an intussusception of the rectum into itself. It is a condition that has been debated upon in several forums and there are doubts surrounding its existence and appropriate treatment. Is it a normal finding, or is it a precursor to a full thickness prolapse of the rectum? In this presentation I will aim to briefly outline the definitions, classifications and symptoms. I will try to demonstrate what an internal rectal prolapse looks like on proctograms and what forms of treatments are available for this pathology.
