It's OK to Die.
- Authors
Williams-Murphy, Monica
- Abstract
The article focuses on critical care interventions in the elderly. The author's objection to certain procedures are presented such as cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in 90-year-old grandmothers, inserting feeding tubes in old men with advanced dementia, and intubating World War II veterans with stage-four lung cancer. Responsibilities of emergency physicians are discussed including the setting of expectations for patients and families. Reforms in end-of-life care are proposed.
