- Abstract
The article discusses Caffè Lena coffeehouse of Saratoga Springs, New York and profiles the venue's founder Lena Spencer. It is reported that Spencer was born in Milton, Massachusetts in 1923 to Italian immigrant parents. Spencer reportedly opened Caffè Lena with her husband, Bill Spencer, in 1960 to capitalize on the burgeoning U.S. folk music culture. Since its founding, Caffè has gained notoriety as a venue for folk musicians such as Bob Dylan and Ani Difranco.
