How dangerous is chemistry?
- Authors
Peplow, Mark; Marris, Emma
- Abstract
The article focuses on the safety of chemistry in light of a laboratory explosion at the National Institution of Higher Learning in Chemistry in Mulhouse, France that killed professor Dominique Burget on March 24, 2006. Risk assessment must be part of scientists' routines, which includes a list of potential risks and appropriate safety precautions. The reason why national statistics on scientific accidents are difficult to obtain is discussed.
