This document is a special issue of the journal Chemistry, dedicated to the research career of Prof. Dr. Itamar Willner. The issue includes 8 reviews and 12 research articles on the topic of functional biomolecule-based composites and nanostructures. Contributors from China, the USA, Japan, and Canada have contributed to this issue. Prof. Willner is a professor of Chemistry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and has made significant contributions to the fields of supramolecular chemistry, DNA nanotechnology, and molecular self-assembly, among others. The articles in this issue cover a wide range of topics, including DNA nanodevices, DNA-based sensors, DNA computation, and the applications of other functional biomolecule-based composites.
