- Abstract
The study aims to identify the degree of application of merit criteria in selecting principals and their assistants in Jerash Education Directorate from the viewpoint of job applicants. The population of the study consists of all teacher applicants for the post of principal or assistant principal in Jerash Education Directorate in the academic year 2018\2019. A random sample of 108 applicants was selected. To achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire was used as a key tool. The results of the study show a high degree of application of merit criteria in selecting principals and their assistants in Jerash Education Directorate from the viewpoint of job applicants. Specifically, the results show statistically significant differences at the level of the indicator (α ≥0.05) for the impact of gender in favour of males, years of experience in favour for 10 years of experience or less and the qualification in favour of a master‟s degree or above. The researcher recommended continuing the use of the transparency system in the section process of the principals and their assistants in terms of regulations and interview process.
