- Abstract
A critique is presented of the poem "Un coup de des jamais n' abolira le hasard" (A Throw of the Dice) by 19th century French poet Stéphane Mallarmé, focusing on similarities between the poem's themes and the metaphysical philosophy of Saint Augustine. Mallarmé's life, the religious philosophy of language, and the religious aspects of creation are discussed, as well as secular versus religious college instruction.
