- Abstract
The article offers a compilation which highlights 25 musical works from 1787 to 2004 that are suited for dramatic soprano voice with orchestra. The works were drawn from multiple genres of vocal music which include scena and aria, song cycle, monodrama, monopera, symphonic rhapsody, cantata, symphonic cycle and lyric tragedy. It concentrates on the well known classification such as found in "Voice Categories," which is featured in "Singer's Edition" by Richard Boldrey and Robert Caldwell. The sopranos are classified into groupings which include soubrette, lyric coloratura and dramatic coloratura.
