- Abstract
The article discusses the political theology of Walter Brueggemann, a Protestant scholar of the New Testament of the Bible, and William Cavanaugh, a Catholic theologian. It examines Brueggemann’s concept of a prophetic imagination, as discussed in his book "The Prophetic Imagination," and Cavanaugh’s concept of a theopolitical imagination. The author comments on Brueggemann’s view of the prophet Moses and of Israel’s Exodus in the Old Testament. Cavanaugh's ideas concerning primal unity and the sixteenth and seventeenth century Wars of Religion are considered. The article also examines Cavanaugh's book "Torture and Eucharist" concerning torture under the regime of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.
