- Abstract
The article analyzes relationships between Chinese religious minorities and the governmental structures and systems imposed by the Communist rulers of China. It focuses on examples of religious minorities in southwest China which have been able to reach some level of accommodation, as opposed to those which have been repressed. An example is cited from the Buddhist community of the Dai People’s Autonomous Prefecture of Sipsongpanna, or Xishuangbanna Daizu Zizhizhou, involving the officially sanctioned dedication of a building for the region's main Buddhist temple.
