- Title
Commentary: Induction Chemotherapy for Head and Neck Cancer: Hypothesis-Based Rather Than Evidence-Based Medicine.
- Authors
Eisbruch, Avraham
- Abstract
The article discusses the lack of clinical evidence that could prove the superiority of induction taxane, platinum and 5-fluorouracil (TPF) chemotherapy followed by chemoradiatherapy (CRT) for the treatment of head and neck cancer over CRT alone. It states that the reduction of tumor after induction chemotherapy may not help oncologists in determining a smaller target volume and avoiding noninvolved tissue. It cites that the advantages of taxane-containing chemotherapy over CF could surmount the reported lack of benefit of induction therapy.
