- Abstract
In the last years the goat raising has been a growing interest from producers, particularly in the production of milk and its derivatives. This literature review reports the knowledge of the peculiarities within each phase of the production cycle is essential to the nutrition of livestock, preventing financial waste and metabolic disorders that can result in the loss of animals. In this paper are present the needs of maintaining a body condition score within the limit, in the pre-delivery and post-partum, addressing the major disorders of metabolic origin that affect females in these periods, focusing on Toxemia of pregnancy, milk fever and lactic acidosis ruminal as well as information on proper nutritional management in the stages of pregnancy and lactation. These issues have a direct impact on health and well-being of not only pregnant, but also their offspring. It is importantly that the incidence of metabolic disorders in Brazil tends to grow as the intensification of production systems, so it is necessary to further research and studies to reduce cases and problems related to them. Currently it is known that the best way to control such disorders is through prevention, especially in food management.
