- Abstract
This article, titled "Dural Arteriovenous Fistula with Hypoglossal Nerve Paralysis," discusses the case of a male patient in his early 30s who presented with a swelling below the angle of his left mandible. The swelling was progressive, painless, and accompanied by left hypoglossal nerve paralysis. The patient was initially diagnosed with a carotid body tumor but further examination revealed a dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF). The article highlights that hypoglossal nerve paralysis due to DAVF is rare and recommends digital subtraction angiography as the gold standard investigation and endovascular embolization as the treatment of choice. Regular follow-up with imaging is also mentioned as an option in select cases.
