- Title
Selecting the correct method for cleaning historic facades.
- Authors
Paye, Adrian
- Abstract
Most forms of building facade cleaning carry some risk of either changing or damaging the material surfaces. Methods must therefore be carefully selected to minimise the risks, and it is usually considered appropriate to 'underclean' rather than risk damage. Building owners usually require their facades to appear as clean as possible, so their expectations need to be managed and the risks explained. Every façade will have its own set of challenges for which the most successful solutions will often involve a combination of methods. This article describes the variety of methods and the circumstances where they are best employed.
