- Abstract
The article offers information on a research carried out on the fitness and virulence of different strains of White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV). As reported, WSSV is the only member of the monotypic family Nimaviridae and genus Whispovirus. It causes an epidemic among farmed shrimps as it has the ability to cause 100 percent mortality among them within 3-10 days. WSSV is a double-stranded DNA virus with a large circular genome which is said to be the largest genomes among animal viruses.
