- Abstract
The article focuses on the study of Russian embryologist Alexander O. Kowalevsky regarding evolutionary developmental biology of ascidians and vertebrates. It states that Kowalevsky asserts the ascidian tadpole larva in terms of their development and the homology of nerve cord and notochord in the lancelet. It mentions that mentor Karl Ernst von Baer opposes the study of Kowalevsky. It adds that von Baer manuscript believes that ascidians are possible ancestors of human.
