- Abstract
Rolf Mitzner, a renowned chemist who was associated with the scientific community in Potsdam throughout his entire professional life, has passed away at the age of 92. He was born in Riga in 1931 and moved to Hennigsdorf in Brandenburg after World War II. Mitzner was one of the first chemistry students at the Brandenburg State University (later renamed as Potsdam University of Education) and obtained his doctorate there in 1961. He led the department of physical chemistry at the university for over two decades and was a charismatic professor. After the reunification, he was elected as the rector of the Brandenburg State University and later became the founding rector of the University of Potsdam. Mitzner received numerous awards for his outstanding achievements.
