- Abstract
The article is about Richard Willstätter, a Nobel laureate from Karlsruhe, who studied plant pigments and enzymes and elucidated the structure of chlorophyll. Willstätter was born in Karlsruhe in 1872 and fled into exile to escape anti-Semitic persecution. He received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1915 and unexpectedly resigned from his professorship in 1924. After his resignation, he continued to conduct private research and eventually fled to Switzerland in 1938, where he lived until his death in 1942. His scientific contributions and legacy are still honored today.
