- Abstract
The COP26 conference in Glasgow in November 2021 was seen as the last opportunity to achieve the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5-2.0°C above pre-industrial levels. The main greenhouse gases are CO2, CH4, and N2O. The conference made limited progress in limiting climate change, and measures are needed to end deforestation and halt greenhouse gas emissions. Over 100 countries have agreed to reduce CH4 emissions by 30% by 2030. Clean technologies play an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and a plan to accelerate the development of affordable and clean technologies by 2030 has been agreed upon. Chemistry plays a central role in solving these challenges.
