- Abstract
The article discusses the dissenting opinion written by then-U.S. Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandies in the 1932 case New Ice Co. v. Liebmann. It examines the facts of the case, particularly the Oklahoma state legislation known as the 1925 Ice Act, describes the majority opinion of the Court and the Brandeis dissent, and discusses the significance of the phrase "laboratories of democracy" in the Brandeis dissent. The article discusses the concept of reasonableness as related to the Oklahoma legislation and the influence of Brandeis's personal values in the dissent.
