GUSTAV CASSEL: IN DEFENSE OF PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS.
- Authors
Carlson, Benny
- Abstract
The article discusses Swedish political economist Gustav Cassel's defense of private property rights and his transition from political and economic liberalism to conservatism. The author reviews Cassel's initial support for the concept of eminent domain, especially in urban areas, as outlined in his 1902 book "Social Policy," and the change in Cassel's thinking following World War I. Cassel's books against the economic concept of socialism such as "Capital and Progress," "Socialism or Progress," and "The Theory of Social Economy," are examined. The author analyzes Cassel's role in the 1928 Swedish elections, specifically his efforts against the Social Democratic Party and their resistance to property rights.
