- Title
Conceptual and Measurement Problems in Contemporary Measures of Income Needs in Retirement.
- Authors
Schieber, Sylvester J.
- Abstract
This article discusses in detail the fundamental problems with current conceptual retirement income replacement models. It illustrates that many make assumptions that are not necessarily related to the retiree, such as assuming that work-related expenses are a constant fraction of earnings when configuring the needed replacement income. The author also points out that some models do not use an appropriate measure of the savings variables for a variety of reasons.
