- Abstract
The need to offer benefit programs tailored to individual needs, increasing need for useful and strategic benefit information and the changing nature of employee benefits have put increased pressure on employers to automate employee benefits plan. This article discusses the process of automating employee benefit plans. Automation involves the electronic flow of information transmitted between computer systems that can be exported to vendors. The objective of automation is to reduce cost, improve quality and eliminate redundant paperwork. The actual process of automating employee benefit plans involves nine basic steps that include needs and cost/benefit analyses, proposal, implementation and postimplementation evaluation.
