- Abstract
The environmental dimension in the Supply Chain Management can and should be seen as a more effective stimulus for innovation and allocation of business resources, not only as a requirement for a regulatory compliance. This is how originated the Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM), which aims to help companies and their partners in getting their competitive goals while focusing on reducing the risks and environmental impacts. In turn, the automotive industry is a key sector of the economy for many countries in the world, including Brazil. More recently, with the stagnation in the industrialized countries, the automotive industry has been rapidly restructuring, as much in terms of producer markets as those of consumers. Thus, countries like China, Brazil and India have emerged as major vehicle producers and consumers. However, the automotive supply chains still generate significant environmental impacts in manufacturing, use and disposal of vehicles, which cause impacts on the use of natural resources and environmental pollution. Based on this aspect, this paper has as the main purpose to present an exploratory and descriptive research about the GSCM practices. This research was held in the automotive companies (including automakers and auto parts) in Brazil. This paper also aimed to check if certified ISO 14001 companies are more likely to adopt the GSCM practices in the Brazilian automotive industry, as well as verifying if the adoption of these practices are sustained in the supply chain. Aimed at achieving these objectives, was conducted an exploratory, descriptive, analytical and quantitative survey. The questionnaires were sent to the automotive companies by Google Docs. A total of 77 companies answered the questionnaire, corresponding to a sample of 15.88% of the surveyed population of interest. The main analytical techniques employed were: univariate and bivariate analyzes using the descriptive statistics, normality test of Shapiro-Wilks and Fisher Exact tests. The R Program was used as a tool for the analysis (R CORE TEAM, 2012). Based on the results and objectives of this research was verified mainly that: (1) Waste Management is the practice of GSCM more adopted by companies associated with ANFAVEA and SINDIPEÇAS, (2) there are significant differences in the adoption of some of the practices of GSCM among companies certified ISO 14001 and not certified companies and (3) the adoption of GSCM practices has no significant differences in the different links of the supply chains of the Brazilian automotive industry.
