The article reflects on the early modern concepts of sociability and honor through the satire "Macette" by satirist Mathurin Régnier. Topics discussed include textual and thematic play with figure of the circle beyond the invocation of speech and sex; importance of sociability and honor as it defines an individual and nullity and powerlessness of the young woman; and role as entremetteuse.
