The article explores the history of Fort Marcy Military Reservation in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The author reflects on construction of the fort ordered by General Stephen Watts Kearny during the Mexican-American War. Emphasis is given to topics such as hostilities with Apache and Navajo soldiers, the impact of the U.S. Civil War, and closure of the military base in 1895.
