- Abstract
Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease which appears to involve the conversion of a stable localized lesion to a progressive irreversible loss of periodontal bone and connective tissue. The factors and the process involved In the conversion of a stable to a progressive periodontitis may be of great importance in determining the pathogenesis of disease as well as in devising approaches for interrupting disease development. Characterization of bacterial isolates and histological evaluations are in progress, and these data will not be presented. This report will focus on the profile of peripheral lymphocyte subpopulations during disease development.
