- Abstract
It is the responsibility of the vascular access clinician to evaluate each patient's need for central venous access, contraindications, and issues that can impact device selection and site of insertion. It is imperative that the clinician understand nationally recognized guidelines and pathogenesis of catheter-related complications in order to place the appropriate device without further complications. This presentation will be a series of case studies of difficult vascular access situations. Facts will be revealed about each case as though the attendee is going through the medical record chart or talking with the nurse, physician, or patient. Audience participation is encouraged in problem-solving each situation.
