- Abstract
The article scrutinizes the 1707-1740 journals of Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI with a focus on the alleged political influence of Spaniards at the Austrian court on the emperor. The emperor's graphology, use of abbreviations, and correspondence with other courtiers including baron Rocco di Stella, Johann Michael Baron of Althann, and baron Guido Starhemberg are examined along with balance of power at the Spanish court and planning the emperor's succession.
