- Abstract
The book "Ruses and Perfidy - Submarine Warfare and the Sinking of Hospital Ships During World War I" by Reinhard Nachtigal deals with the sinking of hospital ships during World War I. The author examines the connections to German submarine warfare and other aspects such as the Allied economic and propaganda war. The book is divided into three main chapters and contains numerous examples of permissible ruses of war and prohibited perfidious behavior. The author argues that Britain bore the main responsibility for the escalation and violation of international law. The work offers new insights, but does not follow a clear thread and contains some questionable statements.
