- Abstract
This article discusses the art of printing and engraving as a mode of questioning social conditions with a focus on the Uruguayan artist Guillermo Facio Hebequer and the Argentine artist collective Artistas del Pueblo in the 1910s-1930s. The author describes Facio Hebequer's works as symbols of socialism in Argentina, many of which were hung in factories, labor organizations and libraries. The censorship of his works after his death in 1935 due to their subversive nature and their subsequent revival in the 1960s are also mentioned. Several examples of his engravings are provided, including "Bandera roja," "En las minas" and "Puente Brown," which depict workers and working conditions.
