- Abstract
The article features the gesso reliefs and paintings by 19th century artist Edward Burne-Jones. His sculptural advances are examined within the context of his decorative works and pictorial ouvre. His signature style comprises delicate and intricate lines inspired by Italian renaissance shallow relief carvings. Some of his featured artworks are the painting "Memorial to Laura Lyttelton" and its relief version, "The pelican in her piety," and "King Cophetua and the beggar maid." Influences to Burne-Jone's gesso sculptures are also cited.
