- Title
Raphael's Animals.
- Authors
Ross, Charles Stanley
- Abstract
The article analyzes the poem "Paradise Lost" by John Milton. It examines the list of animals used by the angel Raphael to describe the sixth day of Earth's creation, with particular attention given to the repeated references to lions and tigers. The author examines and discredits possible allegorical, numerical, and moral explanations for why Raphael chose the animals he did, suggesting that it was ultimately an imaginative set piece done for artistic purposes.
