- Abstract
The article presents an examination of the work of the Digital Equipment Company (DEC) and their development of the PDP-6 computer. Founded by computer engineers Ken Olsen and Harlan Anderson, the company proposed to develop minicomputers as a cheaper and smaller alternative to the machines being developed by International Business Machines Corp. It discusses DEC's development of the PDP-6 and PDP-10 and examines the contributions these machines made in the progress towards a personal computer. It also examines DEC's connection to the United States Defense Department's Advanced Research Projects Agency's ARPANET and the development of the Internet.
