- Abstract
The article provides information on the experience of a teacher and her kindergarten and first grade students who explored nature through direct exploration, field-trips and classroom activities. It reports that the children were able to discern various scientific elements from observing a live caterpillar in their classroom and also by reading "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," by Eric Carle. It also states that the students were taken for a field trip and were encouraged to observe things around them and relate their observations to the adults near them.
