The article focuses on intentional early literacy and early mathematics practices that are recommended by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). Topics discussed include intentional instructional practices, such as Quality Questioning, Academic Vocabulary, Depth of Knowledge and Flexible Grouping, which consider the standards, culture and instruction used to engage students in learning. Also mentioned are MDE's goals for intentional early literacy and early mathematics practices.
