- Abstract
The article explores how English dramatist Arnold Wesker depicted the character of Shylock in his rewrite of William Shakespeare's play "The Merchant of Venice." Topics discussed include the way he presented the play as a legal drama with particular focus on the court scenes featuring Shylock, the possible impact of the legal challenges faced by Wesker such as his imprisonment in the 1960s on his interpretation of the play, and the critical response of Wesker to modern productions of the play.
