Study of Newsboys in Springfield, Mass.
- Abstract
The article focuses on a study on newsboys in Springfield, Massachusetts in the spring of 1922. The study included 325 newsboys who are under 17 years of age. More than three-fourths of the study population are 13, 14 and 15 years old. According to the state law, boys under 12 are not allowed to sell newspapers and those between 12 and 14 are allowed to sell newspaper outside of school hours. The study population reported moderate earnings of less than $4 a week. The study concluded that child labor law in the state is generally observed.
