Legal Corner: CHECK POINTS: Some “to the point” items to ensure compliance with new requirements.
- Abstract
This article provides a series of "check points" to ensure compliance with new requirements in various areas. The first check point discusses the need for municipal councils to adjust their meeting dates to accommodate a public holiday for national elections. The second check point warns municipal officials against using ratepayers' money to pay for the burial of councillors, as this would be considered irregular expenditure. The third check point informs municipalities about the implementation of a new version of the mSCOA system for budget reporting. The fourth check point highlights changes to international valuation standards that must be followed for municipal property valuations. The fifth check point emphasizes the requirement for companies to file their securities registers annually with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission. The sixth check point introduces the mandate for non-residential buildings to obtain Energy Performance Certificates by December 2025. The seventh check point discusses proposed amendments to municipal legislation and National Treasury Regulation 16 regarding public-private partnerships. The eighth check point provides information on the modified cash standards for the 2023/2024 annual financial statements. The ninth check point advises departments on the removal and recreation of certain items related to prepayments, advances, and deposits in their financial records.
