- Abstract
The epicentre of the late-night tremor was in Al-Haouz province southwest of the tourist hub of Marrakesh. B Thousands die in the tremor in the remote High Atlas region. b The biggest earthquake to ever hit Morocco struck at 11 pm local time on September 8th in the High Atlas Mountains, 71km southwest of Marrakesh. The village of Tafeghaghte, 60km southwest of Marrakesh, was almost entirely destroyed by the quake, the epicentre of which was only about 50km away, an I AFP i team reported.
