- Abstract
Pestiviruses, which cause multisystemic infections and high economic losses in livestock, have a wide host spectrum. Since these viruses are not host-specific, interspecies transmission is important in terms of epidemiological prevalence. Due to pestivirus infections in goats, abortions in pregnant goats, anomalous litter births and yield losses may occur. In this study, it was aimed to determine the seroprevalence of pestivirus infection in Honamlı goats farmed in Burdur region. In this direction, blood serum samples taken from 251 Honamlı goats of pure breed were analyzed by ELISA method. Of the blood serum samples tested, 115 (45.82%) were seropositive. Seropositivity rates were determined between 85.42% and 8% according to sampling regions. The distribution of positivity according to age groups was also determined. It was determined that the difference between seropositivity rates determined on the basis of age groups and gender was statistically insignificant, while the proportional difference determined on the basis of districts was significant. As a result of this study, the presence/prevalence of pestiviruses in Honamlı goat breed was revealed for the first time. This situation showed that pestivirus infections are circulating in the region and may cause economic losses
