- Abstract
Joy Curtis's exhibition at Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery, titled "Night Hike and Ocean Grandma," features large-scale sculptures made of fabric and hand-dyed with natural pigments. The sculptures explore the natural systems of making and learning that govern different environments, moving from material reality into abstractions. Curtis's works depict recognizable forms but also highlight shared morphologies between different living things. The exhibition includes suspended sculptures that resemble elements of plants and animals, as well as wearable sculptures that invite viewers to reconsider their relationship with nature. Overall, Curtis's work speaks to the intelligence of nature and premodern ways of life.
